Meet Laura M. LaVoie:
I’ll admit, as a writer, I’m not always great at writing about myself. I can find your voice and tell your story all day long. But my own? That’s a little trickier.
My Asheville story started before I moved here. In 2007, my husband Matt and I bought property in Madison County, and by 2009 we were spending weekends driving up from Atlanta to build a 120-square-foot tiny house on our mountain. We finished in 2012, moved in, and lived there for almost a year before the chance to buy a small 700-square-foot bungalow in North Asheville came along. We still have the tiny house. It’s our secret hideaway and my favorite writer’s retreat.
I’ve been telling stories as long as I can remember. After graduating from Western Michigan University, I took a practical path and worked in recruiting for 15 years. When we made the leap to Asheville, I decided it was time to build a business doing what I love.
Today, I help small businesses tell their stories. I work with entrepreneurs to discover their voice, share their expertise, and create content plans that connect with their audience.
I grew up near Detroit, so I’m still a loyal Lions fan even after more than 20 years in the South. Asheville is home now, and I don’t plan to leave anytime soon. When I’m not writing, you’ll find me hanging out with my cat, Toast, exploring Asheville’s cocktail bars and breweries, or leaning into my nerdy side with Star Trek marathons and cosplay at conventions.
